Launched in 1981, Christmas on the Pecos offers boat rides down the Pecos River to visitors, showcasing Christmas lights and decorations on the lawn of homes lining the river.
“The 40-minute tours depart from the turn-of-the-century Pecos River Park in Carlsbad and take you past panoramic views of illuminated islands, boat docks and back yards,” stated the Carlsbad Chamber’s website.
In 2020, COVID-19 forced the cancellation of Christmas on Pecos, said Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Director Chad Ingram.
This year, Christmas on the Pecos opens Nov. 26 and concludes Dec. 31, according to the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce website.
“Last year, we were all devastated that Christmas on the Pecos was cancelled, and now that it is back on for 2021, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to have such a great river and beautiful event,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway.
Tickets are now available for purchase at $18 for adults. Eddy County residents pay $15. Prices for children ages 3 through 12 are $15 and $10 for local children. Children 2 and under ride free. Tickets maybe purchased online at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce website.
There are six tours per night. No rides are scheduled for Dec. 24, according to the Chamber of Commerce.
Christmas on the Pecos is considered one of the top 100 “must-see events in North America,” the website stated.
“The Chamber of Commerce has done a great job adding special activities, such as music and food events, to this year’s Christmas on the Pecos. We’re especially looking forward to Holly Tucker (concert) on Dec. 18. It is going to be a memorable year, and we encourage everyone to participate,” Janway said.
Tucker competed in 2013 on the NBC TV reality show “The Voice,” read her website.
