After virtual 2020, Christmas on the Pecos returns this year

The first decorations for the annual Christmas on the Pecos event are put on display outside the Pecos River Village Conference Center in Carlsbad, NM on Nov. 14, 2020. After going virtual last year, Christmas on the Pecos returns live in 2021, according to the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.

Launched in 1981, Christmas on the Pecos offers boat rides down the Pecos River to visitors, showcasing Christmas lights and decorations on the lawn of homes lining the river.

“The 40-minute tours depart from the turn-of-the-century Pecos River Park in Carlsbad and take you past panoramic views of illuminated islands, boat docks and back yards,” stated the Carlsbad Chamber’s website.

In 2020, COVID-19 forced the cancellation of Christmas on Pecos, said Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Director Chad Ingram.

This year, Christmas on the Pecos opens Nov. 26 and concludes Dec. 31, according to the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce website.

“Last year, we were all devastated that Christmas on the Pecos was cancelled, and now that it is back on for 2021, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to have such a great river and beautiful event,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway.
