Cavegirls soccer team readies for home game against rival Clovis

Photos from the Carlsbad Cavegirls soccer match against Clovis on April 1, 2021. Carlsbad won, 3-1 and clinched the district title.

There’s a very important Cavegirl soccer game this Tuesday. The Carlsbad Cavegirls (16-1) will host Clovis (12-2-1). Clovis is the only team to have beaten the Cavegirls in the past year- they won a 2-1 overtime match on Sept. 28. The varsity game is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 and we hope you’ll be able to make it. The Cavegirls beat Hobbs, 4-1, on Oct. 5. The Cavegirls are the defending state champions, and they are looking to avenge the Sept. 28 game.

The Carlsbad Cavemen soccer team plays at Clovis on Oct. 12. The Cavemen are coming off of a 3-0 loss to Hobbs on Oct. 5

The Cavegirl varsity volleyball team also hosts Clovis on Tuesday. Their game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Cavegirls are coming off of a loss to Goddard.

The Carlsbad Cavemen varsity football team fell to Centennial last Friday, 35-0. According to their schedule, the Cavemen will next play Organ Mountains on Oct. 22. Friday’s football game was a very special one – there were four new members put into the school’s athletics hall of fame.

Congratulations to Hall of Fame inductees Terrance Orgain, George Wilson Knapp, Veronica Gonzales and John Tigert, who were placed in the Carlsbad Athletics Hall of Fame last Friday. These are four very well deserving candidates. Thank you to Current Argus reporter Mike Smith for his great coverage of these inductions. John Tigert is also a member of the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
