Forty local vendors are expected to participate in an online local Black Friday weekend shopping event beginning Nov. 26.
“We originally started the Black Friday (Weekend) Event last year when COVID (-19) had made it almost impossible to have large vendor events,” said Stephanie Williams.
“Since we had already been doing what we could to help small businesses get the word out about holiday items they were selling, we decided to extend that effort to a full Black Friday Event.”
Williams is the coordinator of the Hometown Holidays and Events in Carlsbad, N.M. Facebook page. She said 40 small businesses would participate in the four-day event that starts the day after Thanksgiving at 8 a.m. and concludes Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
More:This holiday season, shop local for Small Business Saturday

“The purpose of this event is to help support our local small businesses this Christmas season. Often times it is easier to shop online with bigger box stores where the perfect gift is just one click away delivered straight to your door. Our Black Friday Event gives everyone a little bit of both worlds,” Williams said.
She said the Black Friday Event allowed Carlsbad residents to shop from home and avoid holiday crowds during the Thanksgiving weekend.
“One thing I have learned from Hometown Holidays is that local supports local. We have so many small businesses here in town that are so willing to help with these events for our kids. It’s been a humbling experience to realize one of the best ways I can support my community is by shopping local,” Williams said.

Williams said each vendors has an hour to showcase their holiday wares.
“Some may choose to do something fun like a giveaway. It’s completely up to each vendor. This year to help promote supporting small businesses we will be having a Black Friday Competition. We will be giving out a free $450 value photo session from Esposito Photography,” she said.
Williams said online shoppers get points for every Facebook likes, shares and comments.
“This way regardless if you are buying anything or not during this event you still have a chance to win this contest by helping us get the word out about what our vendors are selling. At the end of the day sometimes the best way to help support a local small business is a like and share,” she said.
“I hope everybody does their best to shop local.”
